Bridging the Divide

Two Decades of Living
Two Decades of Art
Two Cycles of Change

My contextual research for this project led me to conclude that one of the overriding concerns in contemporary South African art is the notion of collective/personal identity. The central theme of my work is therefore an exploration of cross-cultural influences on identity. Cultural hybridity is of personal significance as I regard myself as a cultural hybrid (English/Irish/South African.) The construction of identity is also personally relevant as I emerge from teenager into adulthood.

About the Process:This was my final work for my Matric year (last year at school). It consists of 3 panels (a triptych). The medium I used was pencil, charcoal and embossing. As this work was my final it had to be done entirely at school, thus many hours where spent in the art room and way to much fast food consumed ;D
